Making my way towards the supermarket, I was surprisingly cheered to see a party of small children out trick-or-treating. They seemed to have made the effort costumes-wise - one witch, three cats - and the parents supervising them seemed in good spirits. As I turned to go down the road that leads to Sainsbury's, I realised that the music that I'd heard as I'd made my way in that direction was coming from a house rather than a car, and that it was the familiar sound of Thriller rather than some popular tune of the day. This made me feel surprisingly festive.
Coming back about 15 minutes later, I was slightly disappointed that Thriller was still being pumped out, as if to indicate that they'd run out of ideas for suitable Halloween music and were just playing M Jackson over and over until they got sick of it. This made me feel less festive, but as I was unable to think of any vaguely Halloween-related tunes that weren't Release The Bats, I suppose I can't really be too critical.
It has to be said that it hasn't been a particularly frightening evening. I was slightly disturbed by the eye make-up of the woman at the checkout in Sainsbury's - clearly she'd decided that Amy Winehouse was an appropriate role model; I suppose I should be grateful that she didn't burst into song - and I did have an unpleasant moment when I nearly slipped over while engaging in some mild skanking around the kitchen to Hands Off She's Mine, but I don't suppose that really counts.
